Do I have aspiration pneumonia?

On January 25, 2012, in Uncategorized, by admin

Yesterday, I inhaled some of my saliva by accident.A few minutes after it happened, I began to cough, clear my throat, and my throat felt weird. This has been going on ever since.I fear that I may have aspiration pneumonia or something of the sort.Should I be concerned/go to the doctor? If I did have aspiration pneumonia, about how long would it be until it got pretty serious/life-threatening?

You can't get pneumonia from your own saliva. You get aspiration pneumonia from breathing in someone else's air or swallowing their body liquids.

I was sent home and told to take aspirin for a couple of days and thats it, but the ER doc was in a hurry and didnt tell me what causes Pluerisy, can this ever become a serious thing? i am a 20yr old female from wisconsin.

Ouch.Your lungs have an outer lining, and the inner chest wall has a lining.Normally these linings are smooth; inflammation can cause them to rub together. This causes painful breathing.

Pleurisy can be caused by a viral infection. It can also be idiopathic (no known cause).Usually the symptoms are treated (with anti-inflammatory medications such as aspirin, Motrin, or Aleve) and the pleurisy resolves (goes away).

Read more about pleurisy at

http://es difficult and fluids enter the pleural space leading to effusion. With effusion there will be shortness of breath because of inability of the lungs to expand fully due to the effusion or the fluid present and inflammation which makes breathing very painful. Among the possible causes are VIRAL INFECTION, or other bacterial lung infections such as pneumonia or TB, or maybe as a result of other diseases such as the autoimmune SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus), chest injuries or drug reactions.

Hiya

Just wondering if any-one has had experience with crackling lungs and pains on the left hand side of my chest, i have had this for about 4 weeks, the first time i went to the doctors she said i had an infection in my lower left lobe (i personally thought it was at the top) but anyway she put me on anti biotics (amoxicillan) which didn't work, when i went back to the doctor he seemed a lot more concerned, the crackles are loud enough to hear without a sstethoscopeand he said are in the top of my left lung, the didn't clear with coughing, i thought it made them worse. he sent me to get nebullised and then brought me back in to listen to my chest again, the nebullisor didn't work either. so he has put me on 40mg prednisolone and clarymythian also alupent.I dont feel too sick so i know it's not ppneumonia

In general i've been getting:

crackles left lung, were quite constant but now they are there for half the day,

chest pain

shortness of breath

about 4 episode of what i think are ppalpitations(feels like ihave a heartbeat or butterfly at the very top of my chest, really catches your breath)

coughing

I stopped smoking a year and a half ago. 28 female

any experiences with anything similar welcome x

There's a kind of influenza that strikes smokers. It's usually treated with Azithromycin. It never goes away for long and any dust or pollen and cold weather can set it off.

You should turn to your doctor about your lung;)

I was diagnosed with pneumonia two weeks ago. I took antibiotics and tylenol w/codeine. Stopped Tylenol after a few days b/c I was feeling much better. Went for a follow up appt 2 days ago, lungs were pretty clear. Just a little pain and wheezing but I was feeling a lot better. This morning my chest started hurting again. Felt like heartburn and has lasted all day. I have noticed that it's hurting upon inhalation at shallower breaths than over the last few days. Am I getting worse or am I going to experience this off and on for a while?

The follow up docs gave me cough med and an inhaler. Is the inhaler b/c she knew I would start hurting again or what? I need some solid advice b/c I have a very important trip coming up and I must be recovering by then, not getting worse.

Do I need to get on more antibiotics or just treat these symptoms with the inhaler, cough meds? Keep in mind, the antibiotics were making me feel better but I finished them.

Sometimes antibiotics require a second round for nasty upper respiratory problems. You need a refill, call back and get one.Use the inhaler as directed, it may help open up your lungs and help you breathe without discomfort. You should be taking an expectorant cough syrup, unless your doctor has a reason for not prescribing that – you can call and ask, Robitussin DM is a good expectorant. If you are running a fever now, and in the last few days you weren't, you are getting sicker.Play it safe, get the second round of antibiotics, get the expectorant going (w/dr. permission), and it would help if you got some steam going too – use a steamer, or take a warm shower and inhale the vapors. You should be feeling better, not worse – listen to your body.

But then again, if it truly felt like heartburn, try some maalox, or prevacid, or other antacids. If not better, go to the doctor or ER.I am presuming that you DID finish the first round of antibiotics completely and as instructed.

you need to finish the antiobitics or it will get worse. take all antiobitics otherwise the antiobitics won't work unless you finish all of them.

of course you should check back with your doc to see if you need more medication, however along with this is would be an excellent idea if you would beef up your immune system, this way you can assist your body ot heal faster and stay healthy!! please check out this link and if you would like to order these supplimentsor if you have more questions my contact info is on the website at achievebalance.gnld.net at the bottom of page under contact distributor. or about distributor.

A chest x-ray showed that I have pneumonia.Along with this I'm also having some mild back pain in some spots. Are these body aches associated with pneumonia?

I had pneumonia and…..well severe back pain.

Come to discover that my pneumonia was caused by the infection and inflammation of my Gallbladder.

Eyup!

Had Gallstones! When your Gallbladder becomes inflamed, it causes your back to hurt between the shoulder blades (or a little lower).

If you didn't pick up the pneumo bug from another person then I would suspect your gallbladder being the culprit!

But here's where things can become very interesting. If it is your Gallbladder sending you troubling signals, chances are you are heading for one nasty Gallbladder Attack.

That will cause your doctor to send you to the “Chop Shop” for fix'n!

If you want to keep your Gallbladder, the best advice is to look up some Gallbladder cleansing sites and begin performing those actions as soon as possible. But first, juice some lemons and limes together and drink a cup every three hours.

Try peeling a natural garlic clove and inserting a large clove (lubricated with some saliva) up yourrectum. Be sure to use your middle finger and shove as far as you can get it up there. Once in the morning and a new one before bedtime. (of course expelling the old one first)

Your goal is to reduce the inflammation and stop the infection.

Latter you will need to do a Liver Flush, Kidney Flush and Colon Cleanse.

Hope this helps….

Pneumonia can be associated with back pain. You could try some stretches to ease the back pain but the real treatment is going to be curing your pneumonia. I assume they are treating you for that.

You can read more about back pain associated with your lungs at:

http://mon for pneumonia to cause chest pain, back pain, and even abdominal pain.

It is “usually” worse when you take a deep breath in, but not always.

Yeah, you might have some muscle fatigue.

The doctor gave me one of the 2 antibiotics pills crushed in apple sider and it was in a small cup and I threw it up and never took it again.. Is this going to affect me.?

Dan is correct, pneumonia can kill you and without the antibiotics in you to fight it, your chances of recovery become very slim. You need to explain what happened to you to the doctor. He can try another method of getting the medicine into you and even change the medicine if need be. If you had only 2 pills, then that was some strong medication, he can give you something less strong over a longer period of time or give it to you intravenously. Don't put off getting this problem fixed for your sake.

yes you better take it our you could die from pneumonia.its deadly

Also, do typically contagious diseases become non-contagious after the use of antibiotics in general?

It is thought that the illness spreads via close, prolonged contact, so brief contact between children should not spread the illness. It can easily be spread by coughing and sneezing. The illness usually spreads slowly in a group of people, and people with the illness are contagious for less than ten days.

I have a snake and she is a ball python. She is a little over three feet. She eats live mice from the store, she switches off one to two every week. She has been wheezing and i got worried. My parents wont let me take her to a vet, unless i pay for it. I don't have that much money (if possible give price range for a vet visit) she doesn't move much any more, she has a heating lamp on and a heating pad, but when it gets warm i turn one off. I have been spraying her cage often. She recently stopped eating for two weeks, then eat one mouse. Her eyes are now clouded and i don't know if it is because she has gotten worse or if she is going to shed. She opens her mouth often when moving outside of cage, which is not normal for her. She hasn't pooped lately so i haven't had time to check that. Please help me find out what she has, i can let her die. I love her soo much. Please help ( and vet visit prices so i can see if i can afford it) i really need help.

the vet cost will depend..look up herp vets online.. find the closest (or if you have a choice, the BEST) then call and ask..(I took my corn in and it cost me $41 for the exam and with tube feeding/worming/ it came out to around $70 .. mine was not respiratory, it stopped eating long enough to get used to refusing)

There is not really anything you can do to help it without a vet.. (and yes, the open mouth breathing was the first thing my vet asked to rule out a respiratory infection..get her in as soon as possible)The cloudiness sounds like she's just blue..I've never heard of one having the eyes cloud over due to an infection.

here's a site that lists herp vets by state.. (read there listing well.. some herp vets don't take snakes)

http:///

you need to keep a closer eye on the temps in your cage. try getting a thermostat it will regulate the temps for you.

infections like this can be caused by not constant temps of too cold or too warm.try this for a week and if it doesnt go away that go see your vet ASAP

( thermostats are like 40 bucks, i hope you can afford one)

50$-1000$for other besides that so probably $50-70$

My daughter is 3 and has been diagnoised with double pneumonia. Her grandfather smokes and she receives the second hand smoke when she visits. She had the flu in September and never really got well. She visits them every weekend. Did this contribute to her being sick for this period of time? Also, if you have been smoking for years, you can not get rid of the smell in your house or car overnight right?

your daughter should not be subjected to second hand smoke.if the grandfather wants to see

his granddaughter , he should refrain from smoking in her presence.smoking can irritate her

lungs, making it more difficult for her to recover.you daughter is too young to speak for herself

so you must do it for her.protect her health by not subjecting her to cigarette smoke.

I have bronchitis with pneumonia and when I told someone they used the word bronchial pneumonia. Is that the same thing?

I will make it simpler for you.I am a Resp Practitioner.Your airways are Bronchus or the tubes in your lungs that the air flows through…like water in a garden hose. The start big then branch orr getting smaller and smaller until they get to your aveoli.this is were gas exchange happens.body gets oxygen and CO2 or carbon dioxide it released from your blood stream into your lungs and exhaled. There ae different types of Pneumonia.Bronchitis is simply inflammation of your airways.Pneumonia effects the lung parenchyma (Lung Tissue itself, not airways)but you really never really just have one or the other. You have a combination of both in some way or other.Just depends on how your dr. wants to explain it to you.You probably just have enough of both, to call it Bronchial Pneumonia.I hope that is simple enough for you.Don,t over analyze it too much.just take your meds right if you are on any, and take it easy for awhileI think the Nurse made it a bit too complicated for you.Hope I helped

Pneumonia is a lower respiratory infection and involves the lungs. When you have bronchial pneumonia there's also inflammation in the main stem bronchus, a part of the upper respiratory system. (The respiratory system is divided into upper and lower same as the urinary tract)It helps greatly to know something about the anatomical structure of your airway and how the trachea leads to the main stem bronchus, then at the carina, branches off left and right into the secondary bronchi leading into the lungs and which, in turn, branch into smaller bronchioles and terminate at the alveoli, deep within the lungs.Google up a diagram so you can follow this.

So, bronchial pneumonia, also called bronchopneumonia, is inflammation of the bronchus and infection in areas of the lungs. It can include lobes in one or both lungs but it's patchy. It's here and there. And it's most often viral, not bacterial, triggered by a severe cold or flu.

Do you understand what bronchitis is?The word ending “itis” means “inflammation of”.Therefore, bronchitis means inflammation of the bronchus.Go back to the first paragraph, second sentence–”When you have bronchial pneumonia there's also inflammation in the main stem bronchus, a part of the upper respiratory system.”See it?You have both pneumonia and an inflammation of the bronchus, i.e. bronchitis. You have bronchopneumonia, aka bronchial pneumonia, aka bronchitis and pneumonia.Variations in name only for the same thing.Voila!
